2022 Youth Sailing Camp – Jul 6 – 28

The Youth Sailing Program Lives!   This program will be offered this summer but we need volunteers (no experience necessary) to ensure safety and learning for our youth sailors.  Please donate some of your time to this wonderful program.

We will be offering the Level 1 Small Boat Youth Sailing Program this summer in the month of July.  The format will be M and W from 10-1 and Fridays from 10-2 in the month of July beginning July 6th.  This offering will be led by an amazing local US Sailing Certified Instructor and I am super excited to introduce you to her.  The class size will be limited to 10-15 students from ages 10-16 years old.  The more volunteers we have, the more students we can offer this course to.

Additional details and enrollment instructions will be sent out later this week to the membership and the public.  If anyone is interested in volunteering to help (on land or on water assistance) conduct this course, please reply to Jason Hathcock at jhathcoc@yahoo.com

Anyone with a RIB, kayak, skiff, or pontoon boat that is willing to help with (on the water) safety or instructional activities, please let me know which days/times you might be available and what type of boat you will be in.  Even if you can only volunteer for one day, that would be extremely helpful.

Thanks everyone and let me know if you have any questions.

Inlet Depths – OCT 2021

Last week (17 Oct) the inlet committee and a representative from CHA surveyed  the inlet to determine depths.

Good news! Last years dredging of the inlet using the recently purchased Dino 6 was very successful. Depths across the length and width of the Inlet are at least 6 feet.

We found no low spots or hills. Based on the survey results no additional dredging will be required for the 2021-2022 season.

Wednesday Sails Every Wednesday at 6:00 PM

Wednesday Night Sails

Our Wednesday Night Sails will continue Every Wednesday until Daylight Savings Time ends.

We will assemble in Colington Harbour before 6:00 PM and the first boat will leave the harbour around 6:00. There is no sign-up. Just show up and sail.

These sails are open to everyone with a sailboat. You don’t have to be a CYC member to join us.

The course is from the Harbour entrance to a port turn around the 2KH marker and then on to a port rounding of the MG marker then return to a starboard rounding of the 2KH and home to the Harbour entrance.

When the lead boat rounds the MG marker, all boats will turn around and follow the course home. The “winner” is the first boat to reach the outer Harbour channel markers. Actually everyone who sails on Wednesday is a winner.

Boat-to-boat communication will be on VHF Channel 68.

Don’t Have a Boat or Just Want to Crew?

Never sailed before but would like to try? Wondered what the Wednesday night experience is like? Then go out with an experienced captain and crew. You can just sit and experience the peacefulness of sailing or help tend the lines or steer. No experience? Don’t worry. You’ll get expert instruction. The sails last 2-3 hours depending on the wind.

This opportunity is open to everyone – you don’t have to be a CYC member. If you like it, you can join the club and enjoy all of our activities.

Contact the CYC Fleet Captain at FleetCaptain@colingtonyachtclub.com in advance to arrange a pickup. Then come to the Colington Harbour Marina at 5:30 PM at the dock that has the CYC sign. A boat will come over and pick you up.
Don’t Be Late!!! The boats sail out of the Harbour promptly at 6:00PM so you must be on board before then.
Note: On some days the weather or other circumstances may not permit us to carry passengers. Please be understanding that we are concerned about your safety.
