YSP Qualifications

All youth in the community are invited to take part in the youth sailing program.

Age Range:
8 - 17

CYC Membership :
Participants must be CYC members (for insurance purposes).
A Special CYC Youth Associate Membership is $5 per child.
A CYC one year family membership is $75.00.

Training:

This year we will have a certified instructor in the Harbour for each sailing session so youths will not have to take a certification course before participating in the program. Training will be informal with the children receiving dock-side instruction and hands-on sailing experience. They will not receive sailing certification in this program.

A more formal sailing certification course is offered by the Outer Banks Sailing Academy in Manteo beginning in early June. For more information about this course and an application call 252-207-7179 or visit the OBSA web site.

Use of Sailboats:
The boats are available every Tuesday and Thursday evening 5 - 7 PM throughout the summer.

Sailboat Usage Requirements:

Youth that may sail a Optimist should be aged 8 or older.
Youth that may sail a Sunfish should be aged 13 or older.
A youth must present a signed permission from a parent agreeing to the youth sailing one or more specific boat types.
All youth sailing is subject to the approval of the Youth Sailing Director.
All youth sailing of Optimists and Sunfish shall be restricted to the Harbour in full view of the clubhouse and boat docks.
Any adult member of the club may sail a Sunfish without restriction as long as they comply with normal sailing safety provisions.
